Communicating as a Professional

Communication skills are very important, and required in most of the occupations. They are used to communicate with other employees, customers, or patients. Learning these qualities is essential, but what are these skills? And how to develop them? According to Susan Adams a writer at Forbs magazine, people are giving less care for grammar, from the perspective of it is the 21st century and the Internet language (such as OMW: On My Way) is more important than the classical English, but if we look at the grater picture, English and grammar became more important. Because now people communicate more in the written words, plus they use it the most at work in forms, letters, and so on (Adams). But why good grammar? According to Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit, grammar is the most important thing at work. Because people cannot see the writer, but they can read his written words. Grammar reflects the writer’s personality. Second, grammar skills will give the opportunity to make better business. Another reason is that when people have great grammar, eventually good writing skills, they can focus on other things, rather than spending time and effort to fix language mistakes. On the other hand, poor English exhibits how lazy and careless the person is (Wiens). Furthermore, Susan Adams a writer in Forbs adds that great grammar reflects the education level, and the ability of arranging thoughts, and have “organized” ideas. Also, grammar is not just for writers, it makes listeners look way more focused, and interested in the discussion, or the conversation that they are in (Adams). All over, good grammar means good writing skills, eventually good job opportunities. It is not hard to achieve this goal, because writing is a learned skill. Practicing enough on writing will develop this skill, and makes it better, and better. Grammar skills are some of the important, and required skills that are needed in most of the occupations, and this is what I found in the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Most of the professional careers need good communication skills. For a human resource manager, I found that it is very important to be an expert communicator, because the main idea of a human resource manager is to stay connected to what is happening in the company, or in the work’s environment, plus make sure everything is working well, and everyone is happy. Communication skills such as writing, speaking, and organizing are very important in this field. Writing formal letters, and inserting information in the system need good grammar, and well developed editing skills. Also listening skills are required in this job. Listening, and understanding the abilities of the staff, and provide the positions that they are most suited, and comfortable with are human recourse’s requirements. Communication media are useful to achieve these necessities. Understanding these equipments will make the job easier, because human resource managers deal with formal letters and legal forms. It is very important to know how to use computers, iPads, and smart boards, in addition to understand several types of software, like Microsoft office word, excel, and others. Communication skills now are the most important skills in most of the occupations, but I believe communications are playing a big part in business and management careers. Being an expert communicator is important to develop business and improve the work environment. (Bureau of Labor Statistics) In order to be a professional, and successful business manager in the future, I have to make a good plan to focus on my communication skills, and work hard to improve them. By that I can improve my speaking, listening, and writing skills with classes and practicing. Speaking skills are the most important. Managers need to use them in speech, give training lessons, and directing the staff. The best way to be good speaker is by taking several English classes, and I’m also planning to take speech classes too. In addition, interacting, and speaking with others by using the right grammar is necessary to develop these skills. Second, listening is a required expertise in this field. Taking psychology classes could benefit me. These classes will help me to understand people, and know their abilities. Joining clubs to interact with others will promote my listening skills too. Last but not least, writing skills. These skills are becoming more important day after day, and being a good writer is the first skill in most job’s requirements. I Read books, and use a grammar handbook when I need it. I believe these are two of the best ways to be a good writer, also joining book clubs or tell a friend about the book that I’m reading will motivate me to read more, and eventually I’ll have better reading, writing, also speaking skills because I’m talking about the book by using my own words, and that will improve my vocabulary words, and grammar too. In the end, with practice I will reach the level that makes me a professional writer, eventually, a professional business woman. All in all, communication skills are the most important skills in most professions, so to be a professional in any field good grammar, and Editing skills, are the first thing to improve.
